Airsoft Laws in Texas USA

Airsoft Laws In Texas USA

Airsoft laws in Texas are pretty lenient and many counties allow ownership of Airsoft guns. However, many cities restrict the firing of these guns within city limits, but this isn’t a state-wide restriction. Hence, be sure to check your county’s restrictions before you acquire, fire, or travel with an Airsoft gun.

There are currently no laws regulating the possession or use of air-guns other than for use in small game hunting.

What else is legal?

Airsoft Rifles and Pistols Are Legal

Airsoft guns are not banned or considered illegal in Texas as long as you know how to mark them to make them distinguishable from real firearms. Be careful not to fire these guns in any public place as certain counties in Texas consider this illegal. Furthermore, observe safety precautions and proper care and handling as you may be penalized to the fullest extent if you harm another person.

General Airsoft Gun Laws in Texas

Although Texas does not control the use of Airsoft guns within the state, it’s important to remember state safety rules and general laws on what’s legal and what’s not. Remember that each country within Texas may have its own laws and restrictions regarding the use of Airsoft guns. Make sure to explicitly make it clear to authorities that your Airsoft gun is not a real firearm and to be wary when using them outside of the private property.

  • Air rifle

4. Airsoft Laws in Other Texas Counties

The other counties that have airsoft laws in Texas that control the use of airsoft guns within their city limits or parks include:

  • Addison, Alamo Heights, Alice Texas, Allen, Alvarado, Alvin, Amarillo, Angelton, Anthony, Aransas Pass, Athens

The counties that do not have these city limits laws are few and far between, so it would be wise to avoid firing your Airsoft gun within the limits of city limits when you are in Texas as it may get you in trouble with local authorities.

Remember the Orange Tip Law

There is a federal law that says that all airsoft guns need to have an orange tip that distinguishes them from real guns when placed in stores, processed in trading, or shipped within the US. However, no additional colorings and markings are necessary.

Therefore, airsoft guns will have to be marked with the orange tip everywhere in Texas, but most players remove orange tips when they enter the Airsoft fields. Carrying an Airsoft gun in public places can be considered illegal, but Airsoft fields are not considered “public places.”

Conclusion

Make it a habit to check your local county’s laws in addition to general state laws on Airsoft guns before you use one or carry one in public. Restrictions vary per county, so what is allowed in one might be illegal in the other.

A Final Word

Whatever the law states, you need to always remember that an airsoft gun is not a toy. It is a dangerous tool and you should treat it with the same respect you would have for an actual firearm.

In Addition to this, the fact that most airsoft guns are made as exact replicas of actual firearms means that a person who does not know airsoft would mistakenly assume that you are carrying an actual firearm.

For this reason, It is really important to always carry your airsoft gun in a gun bag or case. If you don’t have one, check this bag now on Amazon. The links below have a list of affordable cases or bags that you might want to consider.
